Saffron Road Food Review & Giveaway: Take Two!

Remember when I reviewed Saffron Road Food chickpea snacks (still sooo addicted!) and simmer sauces a few months ago?

I'm back with another review and GIVEAWAY from them!

This time I tried one of the Saffron Road Food all-natural frozen entrees. There are a lot of great options for omnis, like Manchurian Dumplings and Lamb Vindaloo (talk about an exotic frozen dinner!) but they also have several great vegetarian options.

For the more daring, there's Chana Saag and Thai Basil Chili Tofu.

They're conveniently marked with a spiciness label right on the front, so you can decide which entree you'd like based on how much spiciness you can handle. I really appreciated that, as I'm a total wimp when it comes to spiciness and I hate buying something 'daring' and ending up being unable to enjoy it (all too often the case with spicy foods) because I can't handle the fire in my mouth.

If you can't handle any spiciness, or you want something a little more traditional, Saffron Road Food also makes healthy versions of some popular comfort foods. There's a macaroni and cheese dish that's still a bit unique - Jerusalem Artichokes in the pasta - and a Three Cheese Lasagna with a veggie-laden Ratatouille and three non-GMO cheeses: Ricotta, Mozzarella, and Parmesan.

Note: these are all-natural, Halal-certified, and several are Gluten Free and non-GMO, too. The ingredients lists are relatively short and they aren't crazy high in salt or full of preservatives! The nutrition is really great and I like how they don't neglect the veggies.

Anyway, I chose to try the Chana Saag with Cumin Rice, since it's a little less spicy than the tofu dish and still pretty unusual.

I's defined as 'mild' but there was definitely a kick there! It wasn't too spicy for me, but I was glad that it wasn't any spicier.

Then again, I wimp out at Taco Bell's taco sauce, so...

Spiciness aside, the dish was excellently spiced. There's virtually no prep involved, just a few minutes in the microwave, and you end up with a dish that tastes as good as if it just came out of the kitchen in an Indian restaurant!

The chickpeas aren't at all mushy, as can be the case with legumes in frozen dishes, and the cumin rice is excellently spiced and flavorful, not at all bland or gummy. The dish really wasn't too salty, either, which is usually my complaint with frozen entrees. And they were very generous with the veggies, there was plenty of deliciously spiced spinach!

Yum, I would definitely buy this again and, though I like Kashi and Amy's frozen entrees when I'm busy, would choose to try more Saffron Road Food entrees over those. These are just so much more interesting and the exotic flavors are a lot of fun!

So that you don't just have to take my word for it, they're offering one lucky LLE reader VIP coupons to choose the free products of their choice! Enter through Rafflecopter, below, through April 21.

  1. That lasagne looks so good! I eat mostly vegetarian and I really hate how most vegetarian lasagnes are all cream based. I like the tomato sauce!
