I know, I know, you know. It's not news anymore. But summer just requires that sort of enthusiastic announcement of its presence.
One of my favorite things to do in summer is to travel. Beach trips are especially great in summer, because the heat can be so stifling that there's nothing quite like a nice long soak in the ocean to cool you off.
To get you started, here's a list of five of my summer style essentials for any destination.
1) 2-3 bikinis.
You don't need a whole collection, you're not starring in a Roxy or Victoria's Secret Swim Fashion Show. Packing 2-3 ensures that you always have a dry bikini (just don't forget to hang the wet one up to dry as soon as you take it off!) but you also don't overpack.
It's the perfect compromise!
Sunburns are painful, dangerous, and red just isn't a flattering color for skin. Don't forget to spring for the water-proof stuff if you're headed to the beach and sweat-proof if you're planning on outdoor sports!
Also don't forget to reapply ever few hours, including in the easy-to-forget spots, like behind your knees. You'd be surprised by how many people burn in those random spaces because they only think of covering the big, obvious areas!
Just like sunscreen protects your skin, sunglasses protect your eyes. You'll be glad when you're old!
4) A few light summer dresses.
They're cute, they're perfect for the warm weather, they're easy (and quick!) to throw on (and equally quick and easy to take off for a dip in the ocean or the pool), and they take up very little space in your luggage.
I'm a huge fan of summer dresses.
5) Double as many ponytail holders as you think you'll need.
They always go missing! I learned this lesson the hard way, so just take my word for it.
