Review + Giveaway: GoMacro's Thrive Bars

MacroBars are delicious and GoMacro, the company behind them, has recently released a new line of Thrive bars!

Thrive bars are made up of a superfood ancient grain blend, are vegan, and provide plant-based protein, essential fatty acids, and prebiotic fiber.

Thrive by GoMacro

I tried six delicious flavors - chocolate, nuts & sea salt, blueberry lavender, chocolate peanut butter chip, ginger lemon, almond apricot, and caramel coconut.

Healthy Vegan Superfood Bars

How delicious do those flavors sound? Especially chocolate, nuts & sea salt, peanut butter chocolate chip (noticing a trend?), and caramel coconut.

Thrive Bars are all USDA-certified organic, non-gmo, kosher, certified gluten-free, soy-free, and 100% vegan. There's nothing in them that you don't want in you!

And unlike some bars, where it feels like you either have to suck it up and pay shipping fees or you have to go on an epic journey to hunt them down, Thrive Bars are available in stores at Whole Foods as of this month, October 2016. Yay!

GoMacro Thrive Bars Review

I can definitely stand behind their front of package pitch 'Ingredients: Grown Not Made.' Works for me!

Especially because they're chewy, the right amount of sweet, and flavorful.

Thrive by GoMacro Review

They're filling, hearty, chewy, and have a nice crunch from the ancient grains. I liked all the flavors, but was surprised to find that I liked the fruit flavors, like Ginger Lemon (above) a lot more than I expected! They're not boring or flat at all, likely due to the spices that they mix in.

But don't take my word for it - try them yourselves! The team at GoMacro is giving away one box of assorted Thrive bars (MSRP $26.28) to one lucky Living, Learning, Eating reader.

Just enter below by midnight on 11/05. Good luck!

If you don't want to wait, get 30% off of your order of Thrive bars using the promo code Thrive30.

Review: Blissful Eats Granola

Blissful Eats granola is gluten-free, vegan, paleo, kosher, non-GMO and all delicious. There's no preamble needed (nor wanted) for this review, because the granola is simply that delicious!

It makes a perfect breakfast, an excellent snack, and both a delicious topping and an amazing straight-out-of-the-bag food to munch.

Blissful Eats granola proves that healthy can be delicious! The two varieties of granola that I tried are organic, gluten-free, grain-free, paleo, vegan, and free of refined sugars.

That leaves more space for great nutrition! The granola is packed with healthy fats (including the ever-trendy coconut oil) and is low in sugar, but a decent source of fiber.

Read on for more of what makes the granola an excellent breakfast, snack, or anytime choice!

Weeknight Convenience with Marley Spoon!

Those of you who follow me on Instagram know that I love to bake and cook.

My Irresistible Irish Soda Bread
If you follow me, you also know that I recently left my flexible, but also all over the place, schedule as a freelance writer and print model behind to join the 9-5(ish) world as a children's entertainment writer. I love my job!

But that doesn't mean that adjusting to the new, structured schedule didn't require a little work. While I no longer have to be up at 5am on shoot or writing until 2am to meet a deadline, I also don't have time to pop out in the afternoon for a grocery run or precook part of an elaborate dinner when the mood strikes me.

But home cooked dinners are not only fun to make, they're also generally more nutritious than eating out and that's important to stay healthy and happy!

Luckily, there's a middle ground between the time-effective but less nutritious option of eating out and the healthy but time-consuming process of grocery shopping, recipe finding, prepping, and cooking your own dinner. It's called Marley Spoon!

Who else can't believe that it's already the second week of May? Summer is just around the bend!

While the approach of summer can mean anything from travel, to more time outdoors, to just soaking up the sun on your way to work, the time before summer often can get a little hectic. With so many people going on vacations during the summer months, a lot of work is front-loaded and that makes May a little crazy!

Luckily, a crazy busy schedule doesn't mean that you can't enjoy balanced, nutritious meals that taste great. Diet to Go delivers a week of frozen meals at a time and can work with all sorts of styles of eating, from vegetarian to low fat to low carb.

My Style: Winter Wear

I love Christmas and all things Christmas, so December is by far my favorite month!

But December is also the month when it starts to get truly cold - sometimes that's November, but we had a surprisingly mild November this year.

I'm staying fashionable and warm with eShakti this December! They're a custom women's fashion site offering sizes 0-36W and customized clothing.

Ordering was super easy and I loved that they wanted (and used) my measurements to create a jacket perfectly suited to my figure and how I like my clothes to sit!

I sometimes find that this style of coat has boxy looking shoulders that are too big on me, but the custom sizing took care of that.

I really love how it fit and loved how speedily it was delivered.

I would definitely order from them again, especially because they also sell skirts, dresses, tops, etc. Check them out on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram to stay on top of the latest styles and promotions!

Use the coupon code 'livinglearningeating' for 10% off your purchase of regular priced items on their website from now through January 20, 2015!

Fall Reset with JuiceRx

I love fall and winter and all the wonderful things that come with the seasons - the return of layering, the magical appearance of heavenly scented candles all over my home, CHRISTMAS, snow, and a wonderful abundance of apples and kabocha.

Like with most things in life, however, there's a trade off with the shifting seasons. A lot of people find themselves feeling a little out of sorts when the weather shifts for the winter.

While a lot of that is due to difficult-to-avoid biological things (like vitamin D deficiency from reduced exposure to high quality direct sunlight) I think part of it could be due to the seasonal dietary shift.

In summer, we're eating a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables day in and day out. In winter, they're less readily available. But our bodies just feel better when they're well nourished and how we feel physically definitely affects our moods!

Enjoy every beautiful day and feel your best by making a conscious effort to continue to find healthy foods that taste great and make you feel great! I like JuiceRx juices and the yummy raw vegan meals from their new FoodRx venture!

The gingerade is spicy and refreshing, a perfect alternative to ginger ale. Because of the fun lemon twist, it doesn't get boringly sweet after a sip or two, like ginger ale can. It's also great if your stomach feels a little off, because ginger is soothing and helps with nausea. Perfect for flu season!

Pumpkin lovers are also covered. The pumpkin Spice a Milk is a rich, creamy drink that's substantial enough for a meal or a hearty snack and is as decadent as pumpkin pie, but much more energizing.

The dates make it sweet, the carrots and pumpkin make it pretty, the spices make it festive, and the pumpkin seeds make it filling, rich, and great for your skin and hair! Once the heating comes on in the winter, it can really dry out your skin. Taking extra care to keep your skin beautiful from the inside out is so much more effective and lasting than buying lots of expensive creams and lotions.

People always comment on my skin, but I don't use any sort of washes or potions or scrubs - just a standard daily moisturizer when I remember it. Sure, it's definitely partly genetic. But I also think it probably doesn't hurt that I love healthy foods that are great for my skin! Nuts, guys, go for the nuts.

For the green juice lovers (to the ranks of which I definitely count) there are several great green juices.

They're all fairly mild and have a great fruit: vegetable ratio for sweetness. Of the three that I tried, the Green Glow was my favorite!

On to the food.

Love chili in the winter? Their raw vegan chili is so delicious that you won't care in the least that it's not hot. It's filled with almonds, making it hearty and satisfying, as well as great spices and veggies!

I'm generally not a huge sour cream fan, but I actually enjoyed the raw vegan sour cream that came with this dish.

Unfortunately the packaging could use some adjustments for shipping (as you can see, it spilled a bit during shipping and made a mess), but the sauce itself was great. It's not thick like a dairy sour cream (definitely more of a sauce) but still creamy.

The Angel Hair With Hemp Seed Pasta dish was delicious and one of the best dishes I've ever had with kelp noodles. Yum!

Never forgo dessert! The great think about FoodRx chocolate mousse is that you don't have to worry about saving space for it after your meal.

It's healthy enough that you can incorporate it into your meal! And you can even have it for breakfast.

In fact, I recommend eating it off breakfast. I used it to make a delicious layered parfait with crunchy edamame, granola, apples, and blueberries.

Yummy!

From now until November 20, 2014 you can also get 10% off any order with the coupon code LLE10! Head into the holidays feeling healthier than ever with JuiceRx!

#TasteSilkAlmond - For Free!

Do you know what one of the main reasons people who 'dislike' healthy foods don't like the aforementioned healthy foods?

It sounds weird.

Wait a minute - 'sounds' weird? As in, you don't know what it tastes like?

Well, no...

Sometimes the biggest hurdle really is just giving something a try! Whether it's taking the first bite of an acai bowl (oh. my. goodness.) or taking the first sip of kombucha (you either love it or you hate it) it's ridiculous to say you don't like something that you've never tried.

In my house, we drink a lot of milk and soy milk. We don't drink a lot of almond milk, however. I am a big fan of almond milk, even more so than soy milk or dairy milk, so I convinced little C to give almond milk a try.

We bought a carton of Silk vanilla almond milk and she was a little skeptical about it, but ended up being a really good sport and giving it a genuine try.

C is lucky to be an all-around healthy girl, with no allergies or intolerances that we know of, but a lot of kids aren't.

Some kids have soy allergies (there goes the soy milk) and some have lactose intolerance (especially among ethnic kids - my own mild lactose intolerance is testament to that!), so there goes the dairy milk. Just because there are intolerances doesn't mean that their nutritional requirements are at all reduced.

That's why soy-free, dairy-free almond milk is a great option for meeting those calcium and protein needs in a healthy way!

But would the 'strange' new drink pass the kid taste test?

It did!

C made this face after trying the almond milk:

Her immediate reaction was "this is good!"

Yes, yes, that something her kale-pushing big sister recommends could be delicious is clearly surprising. Moving on...

C enjoyed the almond milk and asked if we can have it more often. She said it was just the right amount of sweetness and that it didn't taste weird at all.

Our mom, a huge soy milk fan (but loather of rice milk) really liked it, too. She enjoyed the flavor a lot and loved how "silky smooth" it is. Fitting, since it's Silk Almond Milk! She also really enjoyed how refreshing it was, compared to dairy milk.

Have you tried Silk vanilla almond milk yet?

What's your favorite milk (dairy or non-dairy counts)?

What new thing have you tried recently?

Raw Generation Juice Review

Can you believe we're wrapping up summer?

I didn't have a summer vacation this year, since I moved to NYC and started working just days after graduation. I've had a lot of fun this summer, however, and have an awesome vacation planned for September, though, so don't feel bad for me.

I also got an awesome package in the mail - so, you know, win.

I'm going to Hawaii!! I'm so excited, I've never been that far west (not to mention to Hawaii, which seems like a world wonder from the photos in the guidebooks I've been obsessively going through).

I have a ton of plans for Hawaii, including trying Stand Up Paddle-boarding, taking another surfing lesson, lots of chilling on the beach, and hopefully some nice hikes and/or bike rides around the island.

The last thing I want for such a sure-to-be-fantastic trip is to go feeling any less than my best. Feeling good happens from the inside out and that brings me to my awesome package.

I received some Raw Generation juice in the mail! The timing was great, as it's a delicious way to nourish my body and make my sensitive stomach a little less on edge in preparation for my trip.

But let's be honest - when isn't a good time for delicious fruit and vegetable blend juices?

They're shipped frozen and packed on ice, which I love, because it means that I can keep them in the freezer and drink them as I want. There's no rush to drink them all up before a certain expiration date, so it's up to the individual whether they want to do a full juice cleanse with six juices a day, a partial juice cleanse with four juices and a meal or two, or supplement their normal diet with the juices.

However you do it, including adding the juices to your regular diet, they're really easy to drink (so sweet and delicious) and really great for you - it's 100% juice with loads of vitamins, no added sugars, and nothing but fruit and vegetables!

I also have fabulous news, since I'm in a super happy going-on-vacation-soon mood (and, mostly, because Jessica at Raw Generation is really nice): all Living, Learning, Eating readers get 40% off with the coupon code LIVELEARNEAT!

Yum :)

Where are you going on vacation next (or hoping to)?

Where did you last go on vacation?

What's your favorite type of juice?

Enjoy Life Decadent Soft Baked Bars Review

It feels like I haven't done very many reviews lately, so it's time for another one - and this one even comes with a coupon!

But that's at the end of the post (a ploy to get you to read the whole thing, but you could just skip to the end to get 10% off).

Anyway, Enjoy Life has a new gluten-free product line out, that's super allergy-friendly. Like their other products, the new Decadent Soft Baked Bars are free of wheat, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, soy, fish, and shellfish.

They come in four flavors - Cherry Cobbler, Chocolate Sunbutter, Cinnamon Bun, and S'mores. Yum!

The bars are decent-sized, approximately the size of a Chewy bar, and just right for a healthy, light dessert type snack.

It was bigger than I expected from the picture of the bar on the box and more rectangular than square-like.

While it does have a bit of sugar, slightly on the higher side for a granola bar of its size (and the first ingredient is some sort of syrup), it isn't a ridiculous amount and was less than a proper dessert of the same size.

All of the bars are under 150 calories, making them totally suitable for anyone on a diet.

Though they're obviously not a 1:1 replacement for a traditional dessert, but more along the lines of a sweet snack bar, the Cherry Cobbler bar microwaved does taste pretty cherry cobbler-esque.

If you aren't on a diet, I recommend topping the microwaved bar with vanilla ice cream, as I did immediately after taking the following photo.

Yum! It's even better when eaten with peanuts on top make it even better.

The cinnamon bun bar was also pretty great. It reminded me of the love child of a real cinnamon bun and a Lara Bar cinnamon roll bar.

The only thing that I would have changed about the bars is that I would have wanted them to be whole grain. I don't know why they couldn't use brown rice powder instead of white rice powder, for a little bit of a nutritional boost.

Anyway, now for the good part - enter the code DECBLOG10 at checkout to get 10% off of your first order of Decadent Bars at the online store. Enjoy!

Have you tried the new Enjoy Life Decadent Soft Baked Bars?
