Review: Rawvolution Box (and a discount!)

It's pilot season, tax season, and the season of trying to get our lives (and bodies) in shape. The perfect time for a little boost from a convenient meal delivery service, no?

While meal delivery services tend to be pricier than making your own food, and often even more expensive than eating out, they can be really helpful when you're busy. You don't have to think about getting or making food, it's just waiting for you in your fridge when you're hungry! That sounded totally ideal to me, so I decided to give Rawvolution, the raw vegan meal delivery service endorsed by Alicia Silverstone, Cher, Carol Alt, and other glamorous LA types, a try. LA loves it and now there's nationwide shipping, so NYC must love it, too, right?

...well... this will be a really mixed bag review, because the food was AMAAAAAAAAZING but the logistics of long-distance shipping left a bit to be desired.

My experience started on a less than great note. Admittedly, the chaotic deliver wasn't the company's fault, but due to weather/UPS. The food was supposed to arrive by 1:30pm on Tuesday. Instead, it arrived at 8pm on Wednesday. Grrrrr. Considering that next day shipping to NYC costs between $60 and $100 per box, depending on the speed you select, that sort of delay can be quite frustrating.

Worse, the food arrived only cool (not cold) to the touch - after spending $120 on the meals (that's the cost without shipping) I was worried that some of the food might go bad before I could eat it all.

Not as bad, but also not appealing, is the presentation. While LA customers receive their meals in deli containers, shipping customers receive their meals vacuum sealed in plastic bags - a not at all appetizing presentation, especially for the wet dishes (which is over half of them). Shipping costs are already super high, though, and I suppose the meals are vacuum sealed to keep them from being positively astronomical.

Rawvolution 'The Box' Review

On to the next thing - the contents of The Box. Boxes are non-customizable, so you get whatever the fixed menu is each week, in fixed amounts.

I received:

1. Green Cleanse Fresh-Pressed Juice
2. Roots Infusion Fresh-Pressed Juice
3. No Bean Hummus
4. French Carrot Salad
5. Cauliflower Couscous
6. Creamy Sunflower Seed Salad
7. Nut & Veggie Pate Wrap
8. Enchilada Blanca
9. Greek Pizza
10. Sloppy Joe Sandwich
11. Pecan Crumble
12. Cinnamon Raisin Balls

I'm not much of a juice drinker and would rather have traded the two juices ($20 worth of product, if you divide the total cost by the twelve items in the box) for more of something else. I also would have probably swapped a few other menu items. If I could tweak the service, I'd make opting in and out of menu items the first change.

Anyway, onto the actual food. While there may still be some significant kinks to work out with the long distance shipping service, the food itself is INCREDIBLE and Chef Matt definitely has real talent for turning healthy vegetables into delicious meals! Seriously, the food was among the best I've ever eaten and, if I had infinite money and the shipping issues were worked out, I'd order from Rawvolution every single week.

Juice Press comes to Boston!

It's a new month and a new year. Happy 2017!

A lot of us like to take advantage of the new year to make positive changes. For many, that means making changes to improve our health!

Health affects everything - productivity, mood, energy, etc. It's so, so, so important. I can't stress it enough!

Health also encompasses a lot - mental, physical, emotional, and financial health all matter. There are so many great resolutions that can improve your health and they're not all about hitting the gym more.

You can eat more fruits and vegetables. You can get more sleep. You can take up meditation. You can work towards a healthier work-life balance. You can pay attention to your relationships. You can save. You can indulge in bubble baths and quiet cups of tea. There are so may options!

For those of us who resolve to eat healthier, it can be tough to stick to it when the realities of life get in the way. We get busy with work, school, and socialization and buying, preparing, and cooking fresh ingredients on a regular basics can get tough. Or, for those who aren't used to cooking healthy food, it can be tough to come up with ideas of what to make. Sometimes it just feels like too many decisions and that's when the temptation to throw in the towel rears its head.

When eating healthy doesn't feel super fun or I'm super busy, falling back on healthy meal delivery services or healthy cafes is really helpful for me. When I lived in NYC, there were great health food cafes everywhere. Boston has its fair share, too, but many of my favorites were missing.

Juice Press Raw Falafel

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I'm obsessed with Juice Press and, in particular, their Raw Falafel. After much waiting, Juice Press has finally come to Boston!

Review: Sundance Bars

Was eating more plantbased foods or less added sugar one of your New Year's Resolutions? Don't worry, you don't have to give up chocolate - not even milk chocolate!

Sundance Bars are made of organic raw ground cacao nibs, organic raw cacao butter, coconut milk powder, organic raw coconut oil, erythritol, steviol, nut butter, lemon or lime juice, and cayenne pepper - that's it!

With no added sugar, antioxidants from the cacao, and healthy fats from the coconut oil, it's chocolate that's healthful and can easily fit into any healthy balanced diet, even if you have dietary restrictions like veganism or raw veganism!

Even better, it's delicious! The chocolate is rich and creamy.

I'm a fan of dark chocolate, but this bar will be adored by even milk chocolate purists. The coconut milk powder gives it the creaminess that dairy gives milk chocolate and makes it milder than traditional dark chocolate.

You still get all the benefits of dark chocolate, however, from the high cacao content and the unprocessed cacao!

Sundance Bars is also an Etsy small business, which means that not only does ordering a delicious chocolate bar taste good, but it does good. Each purchase supports a chocolate artisan following his dreams!

Whatever your New Year's resolutions may be (or if you're doing resolutions this year at all) these bars are a great way to do good for your body and your community at the same time. As an artist myself (albeit a writer), I'm all for supporting all sorts of artists and small business. Let's keep the entrepreneurial spirit alive in the world for all, by supporting small businesses over mega-companies whenever we can!

How often do you shop from small businesses?

What's your job?

What are your New Year's Resolutions? Are you doing resolutions this year?

Review: Food to Live Medjool Dates!

When I was little, I loved prunes. They were sweet and chewy and delicious, so I couldn't care less that (along with my beloved knitting) my big sister insisted that my love of the sticky snack meant I was secretly a senior citizen.

I still love prunes today, but I've also fallen in love with a new sticky and sweet dried fruit snack over the past few years.

Dates!

Medjool dates are among my favorite types of dates and Food to Live medjool dates are my favorite brand to buy. Dates are nature's candy, a super sweet and nutritionally dense energy bomb that makes it easy for hikers, athletes, busy snackers, and plantbased eaters to get in enough calories and healthy sugars to keep energy levels up all day long.

They also taste like caramel, but are made of only one plant ingredient, are loaded with iron, are unprocessed (and, in the case of Food to Live medjool dates, organic), and are vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo, non-GMO, and naturally free of added sugar but packed with healthy natural chocolate!

Whir some dates into a smoothie, pack some in a little jar or Tupperware for a work or school snack, blend some with nuts in a food processor for the base of homemade energy bars, or stuff them with nuts and chocolate (I love almonds or peanut butter and dark chocolate chunks). There's no wrong way to enjoy them!

What are your favorite dried fruits?

What is your favorite way to eat dates?

What food did your siblings tease you for liking when you were little?

Drink to Your Health With Vitamin Chick! A Review

Fall is a season full of breathtaking beauty, wonderful experiences (apple picking, anyone?), and delicious flavors - pumpkin everything, especially Starbucks!

Like any other season, it's a great opportunity to start anew with healthy, happy habits that allow you to make the most of every moment of every day. I am a firm believer that wellness begins from the inside! Giving your body solid nutrition can do so much to improve your overall sense of well being.

If you've been going heavier on the apple cider donuts than the apples, pre-gaming Halloween with grab bag candy, visiting more Oktoberfest parties than you would care to admit, and/or feeling a little sluggish, I recommend Vitamin Chick juices for a quick and easy reset!

Enjoy a variety of delicious, 100% organic juices that will flood you with the vitamins you need after less than ideal eating. I was honestly surprised by how great the juices tasted, especially the Power Up!

A blend of raw coconut water, sweet carrots, and maca root powder, it's sweet and satisfying and perfect! If carrots aren't your thing, the green juices are delicious, too.

Not a fan of sweet juice? Don't worry, they even have some all-vegetable green juices (check out the Green Vaccine and Vita Green juices) to satisfy those who are watching sugar content.

If you order a pre-arranged cleanse, the juices even come numbered for you (5 juices, a booster, and a creamy nut milk to end the day) so there's no guesswork.

If prearranged cleanses aren't your thing (though they do have a variety of options, which are carefully selected to satisfy the particular need that they're designed for), you can also order their juices, milks, and boosters individually to get exactly what you want.

Either enjoy the juices as a cleanse (starting with just a one day cleanse for those of us who don't want to give up chewing for 3+ days and/or who have busy schedules) or as part of a healthy balanced diet with your usual (healthier) food choices.

Either way, you're doing something good for your body!

They regularly run great specials, such as buy six juices and get the seventh free, so be sure to check out their website for up-to-date details!

What is your favorite way to do a healthy reset?

What is your favorite kind of juice?

What are you enjoying most about autumn so far?

Review: Raw Chocolate Love

It's October and not only does that mean that it's now fall, but also the start of the unofficially official candy season!

Let's face it, from when we start in on the Halloween candy to when we finish the last chocolates from our Christmas stockings, it's a solid three months of sweet indulgences. Wouldn't it be nice if there were healthier options that are as delicious as the highly refined, sugar-packed treats we grew up with?

There are!

I was on the hunt for a line of yummy chocolates that is creamy, sweet, rich, and indulgent, but plantbased, dairy-free, low in refined sugars, and features healthy fats instead of hydrogenated oils and butter.

I found what I was looking for in NYC's local chocolate company, Raw Chocolate Love!

Free of preservatives, colors, additives, and animal products, Raw Chocolate Love is made in Ridgewood, New York and is kosher, gluten-free, low glycemic index, raw vegan, soy-free, high in antioxidants, and made with love!

Review: Sinless Raw Chocolate

I love dark chocolate.

In most cases, I'm a fan of the-darker-the-better and tend to enjoy 99% dark chocolate bars or even Ghiradelli's 100% baking bar. Dark chocolate is rich, creamy, satisfying, and can even be quite good for you!

Here is a quick list of some of the health benefits of dark chocolate:

* Naturally  high in antioxidants
* May lower risk of heart disease
* May help control insulin sensitivity
* May help against headaches

That last one really works for me! Sometimes a square of really dark chocolate (perhaps the caffeine in it?) can alleviate a headache for me. If your problems are more digestive, it's worth noting that dark chocolate was used to treat diarrhea in the 16th century - and recent studies suggest that there may actually be something there!

Since dark chocolate is high in fat, you don't want to overdo it or you might face some stomach upset just from that. But another great thing about dark chocolate is that since it is so intensely flavorful, you really don't need very much to satisfy a craving.

While I often choose plain dark chocolate because I can get darker chocolate that way, I also love dark chocolate with other flavors (like nuts, berries, etc.). I was excited to discover a new brand of healthy dark chocolate with high cacao content (85%) and some great flavors.

Sinless Raw Chocolate is raw, vegan, sugar-free, paleo, and sweetened naturally with erythritol. And did you ever think you could possibly get in your greens by eating yummy dark chocolate? Now you can!

True to its name, Sinless Raw Chocolate really is a healthy indulgence. It has raw organic greens hidden in its tasty chocolate! I swear you can't taste it at all, I was surprised when I saw it on the ingredients list!

Healthy Snacking with Go Raw

I love snacks. Yes, I'm 22 years old but no, there is no such thing as too old for snacks. Crunch-munch, munch-crunch.

In addition to being a yummy way to lift your energy levels, snacking provides an excellent opportunity to pack a little extra nutrition into your day. Don't waste the opportunity!

One of my favorite healthy snack brands at the moment is Go Raw. As the name suggests, their products are raw vegan and focus on whole food ingredients with healthy fats, fiber, minerals, vitamins, etc. They're also delicious!

Let's start with their dark chocolate, because it's delicious and because what's better than healthy chocolate?

For After the Barbecue : A Healthy Reset with Cocobeet!

Tomorrow is July 4 and for many of us, that means it's a full day of barbecuing and food.

But if that's true for you, you may wonder how you can maximize enjoyment of those indulgences, and your aunt's award-winning pie, while minimizing the indigestion, bloating, and general lack of well-being that follows a day of over-indulgence.

Easy - schedule a healthy reset for after the feast day!

I suggest checking out Cocobeet's cleanses, because they offer a variety of options to fit whatever your lifestyle and your needs are. I, for one, can't go a whole day without eating.

And I don't want to! Cocobeet's Transition Cleanse is perfect for people like me, who have high energy needs and/or like to eat.

The cleanse features a mix of fruit and vegetable juices, rich smoothies with healthy, filling fats, and raw vegan meals. You'll fuel your body with only healthy foods, to have you feeling like any unhealthy choices you made on the feast day never even happened, but you won't have to go hungry.

With their emphasis on organic, unprocessed, plant-based foods, you can be sure that your body will enjoy Cocobeet as much as you will!

Cocobeet's cleanses take all the guesswork out of a healthy reset and they're incredibly convenient. If you're local to the Boston metro area or Cambridge, you'll receive your order by bicycle!

If you're outside of the delivery area, don't worry - Cocobeet ships its cleanses nationwide!

All the foods are and smoothies and juices are absolutely delicious to boot! Here's is the 'live' journal-style review of my experience.

5:30am - I woke up hungry. As always. I am not a breakfast-skipper. Without breakfast, nothing works for me! Luckily, there's a drink to have right upon waking - the Heartbeet Power Booster.

I'm not generally a big beet girl, but Heartbeet is made of beet, coconut water, lime, and spirulina. The combination of flavors works really well and I was surprised to find that the sweetness from the beet was enough to make it a nice sweet drink. Yum!

It also stained my mouth a lovely cherry red, so this one doubles as a cosmetic! Kidding...kinda (hey, I don't wear much makeup, okay?).

8am - You get to head into the morning with solid food in your stomach on this cleanse! And food that tastes like dessert, at that.

The chia pudding is filled with satisfying healthy fats, nutrient-rich berries, and flavor. It really is healthy pudding (think tapioca pudding in texture) for breakfast! It's not a little jar, either, and is perfectly portioned for a nice breakfast. Yum!

11am - I was looking forward to trying the Cocobeet Green Genes juice, because I'm a big fan of green juices. This one features kale, spinach, cucumber, celery, apple, parsley, lemon, and ginger.

Made from over 5 pounds of fruits and vegetables, it's definitely very nutrient-rich and not at all watery!

Taste-wise, it didn't disappoint at all! It was sweet, but not too sweet, and all that concentrated nutrition made it really filling. I was surprised by how filling the juice was! I

always scoff a little when I hear someone call a juice 'filling,' since I'm big on food, but this one really was! I have to eat (drink?) my words.

11:55am - Why is my stomach suddenly unhappy?

11:58am - Just kidding, I drank some water. All is good. (You're supposed to drink at least 8-12oz of water between each juice/smoothie/meal - do it!)

2pm - It's time for my first smoothie! I hadn't tried a Cocobeet smoothie before, but was blown away by their amazing acai bowl when I stopped by with a friend the other day. With high hopes, I tried their Blue Coconut Smoothie!

It's made of blueberries, almond butter, almonds, water, coconut oil, chia seeds, and dates. With all those fruit sugars and healthy fats, it's very sweet and really feels and tastes more like an indulgent dessert than a healthy smoothie. When superfoods taste this good, junk food isn't tempting at all!

4pm - I'm still not hungry, surprisingly, but I am starting to feel a little peckish, so I reach for the next drink. Cocobeet's Kickstart perfectly satisfies the mid-afternoon munchies!

It's very sweet and thick, more like a sweet smoothie than a juice, and really filling. I have to drink it slowly, but I'm happy to because it's absolutely delicious!

The juice is recommended as a post-workout recovery drink when not enjoyed as part of a cleanse and I can see why. It gives me an almost immediate boost of energy and leaves me full and happy. 10/10 I would buy it again!

6pm - I've enjoyed my juices and not been ravenous at all during the day, but I do miss chewing so I'm looking forward to having the vegan Kale & Microgreens Salad for dinner!

I absolutely love salads with fruits and nuts or seeds, and this salad has has all of the above (though the nuts are blended into a yummy paste). It tasted amazing and after a day of drinking most of my meals, I savored every bite.

8:30pm - The last item of the day is a Chocolate Power Mylk. I'm not starving, but I'm also not stuffed, so I enjoy the Chocolate Power Mylk as a dessert. I eat some kind of chocolate pretty much every day and it's nice that I don't have to be deprived at all, not even of chocolate, on this cleanse!

The smoothie is thick, creamy, chocolatey, sweet and delicious. I really enjoy it and it keeps me totally full all the way until bedtime. Then it's off to bed and I feel great!

All in all, this was an amazing cleanse experience and I highly recommend it to anyone! It's a gentle cleanse, so you won't spend all day feeling miserable and you still have enough energy and nutrition to go about your daily life and work (though exercising isn't recommended - make your cleanse day your rest day).

If you're looking for a deeper cleanse, they have options for that, too. Or, as I would choose if I needed more of a reset than one day could give me, you can order a multi-day cleanse! With this cleanse, you go to bed satisfied and happy and you wake up at peace and un-bloated (a great feeling after overdoing it for a feast day or for several days). Doing it for several days won't be a punishment, but rather a pleasure!

For those in the Boston area, it's at 100 City Hall in Government Center! Stop by to learn more about the cleanse options in person, try a juice or two to w(h)et your appetite, and check out their amazing salads, acai bowls, desserts, and more! You can learn more about current offerings on their Instagram @purecocobeet.

My (Food Processor) To-Do List!

I got a food processor for Christmas from my parents! It's red, mini, and adorable.

D'awwwwwww.

Now that I'm thoroughly versed in the art of food processing nuts into plain nut butters and frozen bananas into creamilicious nice cream, it's time to branch out with some more involved recipes!

Aka things that can actually be called recipes.

Here's my food processor to-do list!

Review: Nakd Bars

I love bars. They're convenient, (often) yummy, shelf-stable, backpack-friendly, TSA-approved, safe for sharing, and perfect for donation if you come upon a surprise food drive or a hungry person in need of help.

For those who follow non-traditional diets like the raw vegan diet or a gluten-free diet, however, it can be hard to find a yummy bar that fits into your diet! You'd be surprised by how many protein bars are not vegan (I was surprised) and if you're raw vegan it's a real rarity to stumble upon a bar that you can eat.

Nakd bars are a great bar option that are vegan, raw vegan, gluten-free, healthy, and well portioned for snacking.

Even those of us who don't follow those special diets will enjoy them! I did.
Nakd bars are from the UK, but readily available to healthy snackers in other countries, too, through an easy-to-use online ordering site.

The bars ship quickly and arrive in a cardboard box (within a larger mailing package with padding that perfectly protects the bars from breaking or getting smushed in shipping).

You can order an assortment of bars, like I tried, if you're new to Nakd bars and haven't chosen flavors yet.

First, your snack compliments you. Then you eat your snack and it's delicious. Then you have the energy from the healthy, natural snack and, in the long run, become more gorgeous (setting you up for the cycle of snack box compliments to continue) from the healthy fats of the nuts in the bars. Those healthy fats are great for your skin and your hair!

The cycle of happy Nakd bar snacking is the perfect snacking experience, really.

The bars come in a large assortment of scrumptious flavors, each more delicious than the next.

The bars all look more or less the same, except for different coloring between the flavors, but the flavors are diverse. The Caffe Mocha was one of my favorites - it was lightly chocolatey with a strong coffee flavor. Yum! It tasted like a candy bar.

Unlike a candy bar, however,  Nakd bars are made of just nuts, dried fruits, soy crunchies, fruit juice, and spices.

There's no added sugar, it's just solid plant-based nutrition!

Bars made of nuts and dried fruit bars are, by nature, rich and dense. A lot of fruit-and-nut bars are thus quite heavy for a light snack, especially for children. Nakd bars are portioned well for that little peckishness or for an on-the-go snack for kids. If you're hungrier, you can pack two!

Have you tried  Nakd Bars?

What are your favorite snack bars?

Do you prefer chocolate-y or fruity bars?

Wrawp Review - Raw, Vegan, and Packing Veggies!

In theory, I like wraps. They're a convenient lunch and hold crunchy veggies, creamy spreads, and smoky tempeh perfectly.

In reality, however, the bland flour tortilla used to create the actual wraps turns me off of the entire thing.

Perhaps I was spoiled growing up with the best bread in the world (German bread, in case you were wondering) but wraps didn't have the textural appeal of good bread and didn't have any exciting flavors. I was quite unimpressed.

But I've recently discovered a raw vegan wrap that works for gluten-free and paleo diets (I don't do any of the above personally, but I know that many of you do).

Wrawps are made out of dried fruits, coconut, spices, and some varieties even include veggies!

Best Healthy Vegan Fast Food in NYC

NYC has lots of wonderful food. It's also a mecca for vegans and vegetarians, just like LA on the West Coast. Here are some of my favorites!

Let's start with my absolute favorite. I'm obsessed with Juice Generation, especially their off-the-wall delicious Maki Rolls, and I am so thrilled that they're opening a cafe in my neighborhood later this spring!

I'm so stoked to have so many maki rolls in my life. Their acai bowls are also great, considering that it's not Hawaii!

(Better) Brownies - Raw Vegan Style!

We're heading into the second week of the shiny New Year and resolutions - like eating healthy, being nice, and texting less than 50 100 times per day - are threatening to break, if they aren't broken yet.

I can't do much about the slow walkers who tempt you to let out your inner snark or the fact that you're battling a severe iPhone addiction (hang in there, we'll fight it together), but I can help prevent fits of hanger and feelings of deprivation!

How? By encouraging you to partake in the above fudgy, sweet, rich, scrumptious brownies.

Before you throw your hands up in the air - 'But Danai! I want to be healthy this year' - let me clarify. These are not your usual from-a-box overly processed and nutritionally void brownies. There's space for those in a healthy diet as an occasional treat, but these are the kinds of brownies that you can eat every day as part of what makes your diet a healthy diet!

Life Kitchen Presents Healthy, Artisan Granola!

I love, love, love, love granola! It's perfect on everything and with everything!

Well, maybe not sauerkraut...

But yogurt and granola? It's a beautiful (food) love story.

Unfortunately, granola can be a poorly disguised bag of crumbled oatmeal cookies and eating that for breakfast is unlikely to provide a busy girl (or really, anyone) with the long lasting energy we want and need to accomplish everything that we want to!

Funny disappointed kid

Here is a new granola that I've discovered that lives up to the nutritional potential of granola and kept me energized through the longest trunk show  of horrors.

It's whole grain and from an artisan granola maker, Life Kitchen, in Hungary, but available for shipping thought the world via Etsy

I'm not quite sure what it is about continental Europe that makes all their grain (and dairy) products there amazing, but somehow they're just always the best. Have you had German bread? It wins at life.

This granola didn't disappoint! Hearty, nutty, and filling, both varieties that I tried (Suncherry Granola and Apricot granola) were the epitome of what a good breakfast cereal should be - really delicious, wonderfully wholesome, energizing, and the sort of good, whole food that makes your stomach feel great all day!

The fruit flavors didn't dominate the granola and it was just the right touch of lightly sweet, so you can feel free to add whatever additional sweet and flavorful toppings that you want- dried fruits, fresh fruits, honey, etc.!

What's your favorite cereal?

What's your go-to breakfast?

Do you have a favorite granola?

Fall Reset with JuiceRx

I love fall and winter and all the wonderful things that come with the seasons - the return of layering, the magical appearance of heavenly scented candles all over my home, CHRISTMAS, snow, and a wonderful abundance of apples and kabocha.

Like with most things in life, however, there's a trade off with the shifting seasons. A lot of people find themselves feeling a little out of sorts when the weather shifts for the winter.

While a lot of that is due to difficult-to-avoid biological things (like vitamin D deficiency from reduced exposure to high quality direct sunlight) I think part of it could be due to the seasonal dietary shift.

In summer, we're eating a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables day in and day out. In winter, they're less readily available. But our bodies just feel better when they're well nourished and how we feel physically definitely affects our moods!

Enjoy every beautiful day and feel your best by making a conscious effort to continue to find healthy foods that taste great and make you feel great! I like JuiceRx juices and the yummy raw vegan meals from their new FoodRx venture!

The gingerade is spicy and refreshing, a perfect alternative to ginger ale. Because of the fun lemon twist, it doesn't get boringly sweet after a sip or two, like ginger ale can. It's also great if your stomach feels a little off, because ginger is soothing and helps with nausea. Perfect for flu season!

Pumpkin lovers are also covered. The pumpkin Spice a Milk is a rich, creamy drink that's substantial enough for a meal or a hearty snack and is as decadent as pumpkin pie, but much more energizing.

The dates make it sweet, the carrots and pumpkin make it pretty, the spices make it festive, and the pumpkin seeds make it filling, rich, and great for your skin and hair! Once the heating comes on in the winter, it can really dry out your skin. Taking extra care to keep your skin beautiful from the inside out is so much more effective and lasting than buying lots of expensive creams and lotions.

People always comment on my skin, but I don't use any sort of washes or potions or scrubs - just a standard daily moisturizer when I remember it. Sure, it's definitely partly genetic. But I also think it probably doesn't hurt that I love healthy foods that are great for my skin! Nuts, guys, go for the nuts.

For the green juice lovers (to the ranks of which I definitely count) there are several great green juices.

They're all fairly mild and have a great fruit: vegetable ratio for sweetness. Of the three that I tried, the Green Glow was my favorite!

On to the food.

Love chili in the winter? Their raw vegan chili is so delicious that you won't care in the least that it's not hot. It's filled with almonds, making it hearty and satisfying, as well as great spices and veggies!

I'm generally not a huge sour cream fan, but I actually enjoyed the raw vegan sour cream that came with this dish.

Unfortunately the packaging could use some adjustments for shipping (as you can see, it spilled a bit during shipping and made a mess), but the sauce itself was great. It's not thick like a dairy sour cream (definitely more of a sauce) but still creamy.

The Angel Hair With Hemp Seed Pasta dish was delicious and one of the best dishes I've ever had with kelp noodles. Yum!

Never forgo dessert! The great think about FoodRx chocolate mousse is that you don't have to worry about saving space for it after your meal.

It's healthy enough that you can incorporate it into your meal! And you can even have it for breakfast.

In fact, I recommend eating it off breakfast. I used it to make a delicious layered parfait with crunchy edamame, granola, apples, and blueberries.

Yummy!
